On a trip to Sri Lanka Johanna found a vintage light box tucked away in the corner of a shop, when she asked to power it, the picture started to move .
We purchased it, and back home I took the thing apart and was amazed by the ingenious simplicity of it.
This was the start of my latest passion: light boxes. Using expertise from my camera rigs: driving motors, basic electronics, photography and photoshop skills, I dived into this new adventure.
I call them “moving” light boxes and by adding a couple of vintage TV-speakers inside with a sound card, the result is an exciting old school multimedia experience.
Almost everything is mechanical, except servo driving and sound cards as I want to build solid, long lasting boxes. I also handmake the frames .
It becomes a bit of an obsession, I can lock myself in my atelier for days to find a solution for all the technical problems that arise along the way.
The whole process of making only one box can take me months. The final result always makes me euphoric and motivates me to start with another, more complicated one.
